Why do people say that mentally incompetent people fake behaviors for attention?

Is this just out of ignorance because NORMAL people don't understand?

well there is a specific mental illness where people do fake behaviors for attention, called borderline personality disorder..now not all people with this fake behaviors but some do.

Yeah, I guess people don't understand so they turn it around to things they want to see and things they expect to see. so they just lable things. just the way of humans.

Well.you hit the nail on the head.it is very deceptive however, in many cases because sometimes the person seems so normal in other ways, it is hard to think of them with mental problems..I think you have to care.
because sometimes they actually do fake behaviors for attention. they're still human and not above acting up for attention. come on, give them some credit! (I'm not saying all "mental" behaviors are fake, because mostly they aren't.)

Some people do fake for attention! Like "cutters".
