Does anyone have any information on Foreign-Accent Syndrome?

I caught one of those medical phenomena shows once about an American woman who was hit in the head, and from then on she spoke with an English accent. "Experts" on the subject termed the disorder Foreign-Accent Syndrome. It is the only known case.

Now, I find this idea to be completely ridiculous. Apparently she was hit in the head in the exact spot that deals with speech, but how can she develop an accent that is so distinguishable? Wouldn't she develop some sort of speech impediment?

Is this possible? How can they even be sure that this woman isn't faking this accent and making a huge fool out of them?

Answers:
Well love I don't rightly know...tis' slightly funny though but do try not to get your knickers in a bunch.

lol, trying to "type in a foreign accent"...I've never heard of that before but it probably is a fraud because its just so ridiculous.

haha I dont know but it is pretty funny. I have never heard of such a thing. odd.
I would think she would develop a speech impediment. Being hit in the head and speaking with an accent just doesn't make sense.
yeah, shes definitely fooling everyone
Accents are the result of conditioning brought about by the environment in which a person is brought up. A knock on the head isn't going to have the slightest effect - it might result in a speech impediment but not a change of accent. She's a fraud.
hahaha never heard of it. It's kinda cool though.hey,,i always wanted to speak Norwegian
Well so I've heard that some patients who suffer brain injuries occasionally lose the ability to talk in their native accent.
This condition, called "foreign accent syndrome", affects only a tiny number of patients. Basically I think what it means is that It can mean that a native English speaker can end up sounding more like Spanish or French. It can follow a stroke or another kind of head injury.Well hope this helps! Feel free to e-mail me at Hayley1125@yahoo.com if you have anymore questions about this matter! Hope all this helped explain it better!! :)

Oh my god i know what your are talking about. I saw that on some program i was watching, and i couldn't believe what i was hearing. It is amazing..i am not sure how is it possible though.
Mai Dahhhhling, vhy vould do find dis widiculous? I mayself vas hit in de heed vit da same flying object.I tink it vas from Mars or Kingkingland.
This "syndrome" is usually due to lack of self esteem, hence trying to imitate someone else from a country which they look up to. For example, many Asian countries have this problem of women, especially, trying to imitate accents of other western countries, in attempt to be more respected. (everyone loves a visitor with a foreign accent).

So yes she's bluffing.

unless she's got multiple personality disorder. usually one of the personalities would be 'born' from a certain country visited by the host in particular, or it could just simply be a favourite country.
