Answers:
There's a hereditary, genetic component that can be passed down. I think science is finding as with other illnesses, it may only mean that you are more susceptible to environmental triggers. There's also a school of thought that looks at the parenting style, how much eye contact and attention directed at seeing the baby or young child as a whole, wonderful person as opposed to just feeding and basic physical care. This isn't to put the problem off on the mom, but just recognizes that some babies/children need more of a deeper connection than others. Without it, they struggle to find worth in themselves, which can have lasting implications. Also, if you are emotionally neglected or put down/criticized as a child, you may very well end up a depressed youth with further depression in adulthood. All of which is an interplay between self-esteem and genetic predisposition.

i doubt it but go see a doctor just in case
I first started to feel depression when I was around 10. I don't know if it could affect children younger than that.
As with many diseases, depression has proven to have a genetic component in many cases. This means that if the environment you live in is such that you are exposed to a depressive atmosphere that gene could be activated that you were born with and set you on a chronic course of depression. The gene is called DEP-1.
maybe.depends how well your mother looked afer herself while she was pregnant with you, maybe she had alot of stress of something
It can be heredity - transferring down the imbalanced brain neuro-transmitters that cause clinical depression. Situational depression can come early too if your environment was unhappy. Good luck, Kitty
its not possible to be born with depression. depression is a state of mind that is generally caused by stress, low self-esteem, etc. A fetus does not know any of these things before it is born. It is, however, possible to be born with a chemical imbalance which can make you more susceptible to depression later on. if you are pregnant, it is highly likely that the overload of hormones could be making your emotions seem even worse than they usually are. if you are concerned about it though, the best person to ask is your doctor. good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy! this should be a happy time. smile! :o)
Babies born with depression ? How could that be ?
Whatever your problem is.you were not born with it.
Now babies can be born with an addition if the mother used drugs throughout the pregnancy.
organic depression can be present at birth. However, it generally does not present itself during the first year of life. The up side it that most types of organic deprerssion respond to medication
I think that there are a lot of mentall illnesses that are passed from the parents to the next generation. My birth mother has suffered numerous mental problems in her lifetime and was recently diagnosed as being a manic depressant and I have been diagnosed the same. There are many articles that show where research is being done to prove this.
