how can i end a feeling of derealization? (definition in details)?

In psychology (and also psychiatry), depersonalization (or derealization) is the experience of feelings of loss of a sense of reality. A sufferer feels that he or she has changed and the world has become less real -- it is vague, dreamlike, or lacking in significance. The DSM-IV categorizes depersonalization disorder as a form of dissociative disorder, though depersonalization proper is more often characteristic of the traumatic origin of other conditions.

Hi, I really didn't even know that there was an existing condition until I was diagnosed with it. It was horrible, I felt as though I was nothing, It seemed to meI could walk around the streets and nobody would be able to see that I was there. but the best part was when I started to come around, at just weird moments it would hit me that I felt real. I could not explain it to really anyone and have a hard time writing down the way I felt when I was feeling this way constantly and how it felt when I actually realized that I felt like a real being. I remember driving in the car one day and just looking out the window and it was like my eyes just opened or something, like i have seen something I have been failing to see and I looked at my boyfriend and I said "I just got this amazing feeling that I feel real" It was great. I still don't have it all the time and actually not as often as i wish i did, I still look around and feel non existent, trying to find a purpose. But in order to get through it you really have to find the underlying problem. There is always something that causes you to feel this way, mine was clinical depression and anorexia and you know once you come to terms with what is causing this and you begin to heal it comes back. It does come back very slowly but you will appreciate the little moments that you do feel like a human being. Have you spoke with your doctor or are seeing any mental health specialist? That should definatley be your first start and they will guide you in the right direction. Just keep your head up because it will get better.

I am a totaly layman on stuff like this but I'll give it a go.
I found that the best way to fix stuff is learn alot about it. You might want to ask yourself, or have a therapist help you to ask yourself how you get to feel that way. I understand these disorders are often said to be accountable to chemicals in the mind but I am a big beleiver that by how we use our mind determines the shape of it and it's chemicals. You might want to try to find the thought patterns that lead you to this perception of the world. Perhaps if you trace your steps backward, it may give you some hints as to how to change things in your perceptions. What thoughts we chose to give energy to have enourmous powers over our material and spiritual lives. Chose consiously and wisely.

Also, maybe you might want to distract yourself from feeling this way by trying to really put yourself into the world. Maybe another person, or volunteering. I wonder if even reading a book that you really like would be good. Go out there and try to feel the world around you. This might be total BS, I have never heard of this condition until now so take what I say with a grain of salt. Good luck!
