this drug was given to my son for a headache, he only took two but he died four weeks later.

Answers:
im terribly sorry for your lose, i hadnt heard of citalopram but after doing a web search found the following information for you

This belongs to the group of medicines known as selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

Citalopram is used to treat depression and is also useful in treating people suffering from panic attacks.
Citalopram is available in tablet and oral liquid form.

It is also sometimes known as: Cipramil. You may notice the use of any of these names on the packaging of your medicine.

Can Citalopram cause problems?

Along with their useful effects all medicines can cause unwanted side effects, which usually improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects continue or become troublesome.
Feeling or being sick, indigestion, tummy ache, diarrhoea, constipation, loss of appetite and weight loss or increase in appetite and weight gain, dry mouth or increase in saliva production, nervousness, anxiety (worry), headache, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), shakiness, dizziness, weakness, seeing things that aren't real, drowsiness, discharge from the nipples, sexual problems, sweating, movements of the body without control from the patient, a fast or fluttering heartbeat, coughing, yawning, confusion, difficulty concentrating, difficulty remembering things, skin rashes, muscle pain, pins and needles, problems with eyesight, problems with taste, a sore or runny nose, ringing in the ears or problems urinating (passing water).

if you require any further information on citalopram please look at the information at www.patient.co.uk or contact your son's g.p

not but thanks for the points
go on google to find out,iv not heard of that one sorry..
what sue their ****
I am very sorry to hear about your son. The drug is called citalopram, and yes, it is an antidepressant. However, I am not sure how effective it is in headache. Generally speaking, the newer antidepressants are relatively safe with fewer major side effects. As with any drug, there is a risk of allergy which can be life threatening, but this is very rare.
that is dreadful for you i am sorry.

it is unlikely the citalopram caused his death.....more likely to be whatever was causing such a headache.
my husband is on citalopram and i don't see any side effects due to it though he does have side effects from some of his medicines.
i took them for nearly a year for depression and i felt ok at first then they upped my dosage but felt really sick and shaky and dizzy all the time. felt like i was gonna fall over so i stopped (without telling my doc lol) they shouldnt have been prescribed for a headache. you should sue for malpractice. and also sorry for your loss x
if you are sure that citlaopran is what caused your sons death, you need to sue the crap out of forest laboratories, the manufacturer.

by suing, not only would you get some compensation ( i know money never replaces our loved ones, especially our children), but it also is a way of making sure that people know what happened, so that

(#1) it doesn't happen to anyone else, &

(#2) improvements are made to either the product, or the label (warnings, etc.).
Firstly I am really sorry to hear about your son.

I work in mental health in the UK. The drug sounds like citalopram, an antidepressant. I have not heard of it in the treatment of headaches or of anyone dying from using it. It takes about a month for it to get into the system but only after continual use. It is highly unlikely that your son died from using this drug.
It is more likely that the problem that was causing the pain caused his death. Searching for answers is part of the grieving proccess. Acceptance comes eventually. Things really do get better in time..
sorry to hear that, best you check with specialists.
no. ive heard of and administered citalopram to patients it is generally used for anxiety and depression and other related illnesses. it is extremely unlikely that this was the cause for your childs death, however i have never known of anyone as young as 2 to be prescribed citalopram and i would question the doctor as to his reasons for this. the only way to be sure of your childs death is to have a post mortam carried out. there are many reasons why your child passed on but with the headaches this narrows the reasons down i.e lack of blood getting to the brain leading to not enough oxygen getting to the brain. possible tumor of some kind and many other reasons but i would (if you really want to know) is get a post mortam done.
