Is Asperger's Syndrome phony?
Just curious.
Answers:
No. Unlike some of these "therapy conditions, it is real. I knew a boy with it, a lovely lad, but completely unable to keep two thoughts in his head, or think quickly.
No. It is a legitimate syndrome on the autism spectrum.
My little brother has this. Here is some basic information, but you could have found this out by just googling it.
Asperger’s syndrome is a developmental disorder in which people have difficulties understanding how to interact socially.
People with Asperger's syndrome have some traits of autism, especially weak social skills and a preference for sameness and routine. However, unlike those with autism, children with Asperger's syndrome usually start to talk around 2 years of age (the age at which speech normally develops). They have normal to above-normal intelligence.
Both conditions belong to the group of disorders called pervasive developmental disorders. A recent study of a U.S. community of 76,000 found as many as 3 out of every 1,000 children were affected by Asperger's syndrome.
No. I wonder why you would ask such a question? People with Asperger's Syndrome may have trouble controlling what comes out of their mouth. They say some odd things, but the reason they have trouble is because they don't realize that what they just said was wrong. It is generally mistaken for social ineptness.
Gypsy Girl, I think your talking about Tourette's Syndrome which is just as real as Asperger's.
