Only serious answers PLEASE!!?
I'v been sufferin from depression for 6 years & became a self harmer 4 years ago.I've been to counciling back home but haven't been back since I moved. But I was thinking about medication.Primarily prozack. But I'm not sure if it would be good for me or not.Can any one tell me, who used it,how it was for them?
Answers:
prozac and drugs of the same nature only help long enough for you body to adapt to them then you have to keep taking stronger doses. My wife had a problem with depression and went to a natural health food store and asked about a natural substance for this it was called something like ladies well being or something. but i would try that first it helped her alot and it is a natural substance so your body accepts it and does not try to fight it building up an imunity to it therefore your dosage will be same/
There are better ones than prozac, i.e, side effects fewer in some
Medication only does part of the job. it will help you feel better but it will not fix the problem. From experience, you need both therapy and meds!
I used this before and it Finally released me from the gates of social fears that I was going through!
I'd suggest going on it, letting it work and then getting back off of it (if that's what you wish).
goto a doctor and ask what to do and what meds to get even though i hate doctors they will help when you goto the right one
Depression is a self indulgent form of selfishness.
You don't need drugs. You need to realise that the people around you are affected by every word you speak, every thing you do and the way in which you do it.
I'd say you feel powerless, not depressed. Claim your experience as being a powerful, uplifting one -- and your depression will disappear.
Good luck.
First of all I think that you shouldn't just jump right in and say Prozac there is alot of meds out there for your problem you need to see a Dr the he will suggest what meds would be best there is Zoloft buspar wellbutrin .
i have also had depression and took medication if u could talk to someone around you i would try something other then taking meds this mayb something that can b helped thru talking good luck also my sister was on the med ur talking about and she overdosed several times and is currently in rehab for 1 year
I'd advocate medication. It takes the edge off, helps you feel better in your day to day life. You will still feel sad, at times, but it helps alot. I take Zoloft, because that was what was perscribed to me. I would talk to your doctor about what would be best for you, becase what works for one body might not work for another. Make sure you pick an antidepressant that works well with your body chemistry.
Take care
I was on Prozac for awhile and it did help.but it didn't fix everything. I also had to make some major lifestyle changes with the help of a therapist. Meds don't fix everything.talk to a Dr. and make some positive changes for yourself.
My doctor put me on Prozac. It takes care of three problems. It raises my pain level tolerance, it helps my depression, and stops my mood swings from menopause. I take 30mg every night before I go to bed. It has been a life saver. I suffer from arthritis. I hope this helped.
I've never used Prozac myself personally but one of my close friends did. She was put on Prozac for Manic Depression and at first it worked good and she was ok everything was fine. But one time she missed her dose and she was showing signs of withdrawal. Prozac is a very addictive medication with some very severe side effects. I don't recommend you out right ask a psychiatrist for this medication.instead look for alternatives that will give you the same or similar results as Prozac but is less addicitive with less side effects. Do follow up because Depression is a disorder that should be treated.
Prozac really isn't the best anti-depressant out there. Check with a psychaitrist. My reccomendation would be Effexor.
every anitdepressant has different effects for different people... for example . i couldnt do anything but smile on Zoloft,.but my cousin became homicidal on it. I became suicidal on Paxil and had an allergic reaction to Lexapro. I was supposed to start Prozac but became pregnant. You will just have to ask your doctor and he/she will prescribe waht they think is best for you. if that doesnt work you will have to try another... basically you'll have to find the best medication through trial and error. but i wish you the best of luck and i want to thank you for seeking advise on this
oh dear, it will be good if you consulted a registered medical psychiatrist as because there are a whole basket of medications available for deppression and only ur consultant will know what will suit you and the kind of additional support that you may need.
Prozac is not for everyone, was very good for me, but I weaned myself off. Paxil and Wellbutrin are fine, they are quite popular
The problem is that every pill has side effects, but when you suffer from depression because your brain doesn't communicate well, ( both sides) you need the medication. It's a disease like any other disease and on order for you to have a decent life you just have to take it.
I hope you will see the doctor soon and I wish you all the best.
I think that medcation can be a valuable tool to break the pattern of depression. BUT, if you ever want to get off, you need to fix the problem. This means therapy, nutrition, exercise, and support.
Good luck!
