Is this a sign of OCD?
I have to make sure all the doors and windows are shut and locked before going to bed, and also closets. I also seem to chew on my shirt for no apparant reason.
Also my dad has to make sure there are excactly 8 knives, big spoons and forks, 8 little spoons and forks, and everything seems to be matching.
im asking because ive read alot of questions and it sounds like everything is a symptom of it.

It sounds as if you and your father may both have OCD. Checking the windows and doors to see if they are locked is fine but it you have to do it a certain number of times then it becomes a problem. I have been suffering with OCD for over 30 years now and I have to do everything two times. Check the doors 2 times to make sure that they are locked check the stove to be sure that it is off and a whole lot of other stuff but I used to have to do it nine times so I am doing better. There is hope though. There is a drug called Luvox that is for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and a Psychiatrist can prescribe it for you. Prozac also helps with OCD. See your doctor soon before you make yourself nuts like I did.
A sign maybe-but, not the full blown OCD that inhibits you from leading a normal life.

it might be, or it might be you dont feel safe. You have to learn to control it if it is but there is really no medicine , there is training or chat sessions. If you have any questions write to me , i have ocd and i'd be happy to help answer any questions

Don't give in to your behavior. Resist it and challenge it.
Then, listen, why are you not asking a professional about this? Go see a professional and let that person help you. Go now before you feel the situation is getting in the way of your daily life. Go now before it gets worse if it is what you fear. Don't torture yourself; it might be somethign with a very sound basis, too. Go see a professional and don't second guess and don't believe what a plumber, a taxi driver or a maintenance man and a maid (people without the education and training of a mental health professional) tell you. Speak with a professional.
I know, I'm posting this on almost every OCD question I find. But I found this amazing site: www.stuckinadoorway.co.uk , it's a message-board for all sufferers, diagnosed or un-diagnosed. It really helped me, so why don't you take your questions there?
