As the others mentioned, by all means use the humor. Its gold. Just know when to stop (be funny, not obnoxious - read her reactions to see how you're doing). Try to find out what kinds of things she is interested in. Ask her questions. Talk about the things she likes. High school girls like to talk about themselves, it draws them out, and the interest you show in them can make them more interested in you.
And by all means don't let her "hotness" intimidate you. She's just a person, and if she's really hot she may get annoyed at how often she gets hit on. So, don't hit on her. Get to know her, let her get to know you, and if she is interested, she might even make the first move. If not, well, you've hopefully gotten some good practice and hopefully lost a little of the shyness and you can try again with another girl.
