how much weight is 'lifted' while doing pushups?
is it like 50% of your total body weight something like that? I figured that your legs support alot of the weight, thanks ya'll.

This will differ for everyone as some peoples core is thicker and heavier than others. And vice versa. The best way to determine how much is very simple, pull out your home bathroom scale, get down and do a pushup all the way down and back up with your hands on the scale. This should tell you the range of the weight being lifted due to the fact that your body is acting as a simple lever, then you will want to determine what percentage of your body weight that is. Then you will know about what you are doing. Make sure that the scale is under your chest and between your pectorals. This will give the most accurate information. Happy workouts.
For most people it will range between 61% and 72%, there may be some extremes but these are normal ranges, mine is 67%.
The weight of your torso.
ya, most of the weight you're lifting is your upperbody and arms. it's like 70%-80% of your weight or something. Then when you do the ones you do on your knees, it's only like 40%, something like that.
75% or more I think. I do alot of pushups every week, and I never figured it out. But, if you decide to weigh it, remember to make sure that your feet are at the same level as your hands
I'm not sure. but if you've got a scale you can figure it out. Place your feet on the scale and books under your hands equal to the height of the scale. Have someone watch the scale as you very slowly do a pushup. The weight the scale reads should vary a bit. Have that person record the lowest and the highest weight the scale reads. Take your personal weight and subtract the lowest weight. Now divide by your personal weight. Multiply by 100. Now do the same with the heighest weight. This is the lowest percentage of your weight that you lifted.
Now do the same with the heighest weight you lifted. This should give you a range for the percentage of your weight you are lifting.
NOTE:
The percent you lift depends upon your height, length of arm, weight distribution and possibly other factors. I would surmise, as a physics major, that this percentage could vary from 50% to 85%.
same weight as you
