spermgram test?
my husbant and i trying to have a child. we want to test his sperm. must we stop having sex for a couple of days in order to collect a normal "sample"? How do those tests cost in euros?
Answers:
Well you need to arrange this through a fertility clinic. They will tell you how long you have to abstain for.
I'm not sure of the cost because we did it through the NHS, but every clinic will have different fees for this sort of thing. you'll have to get in touch with a clinic in your area and ask them.
My BF had a few of these done. I think we had to "abstain" from sex for a couple of days. He was uspposed to do it in the clinic but as he kind of had "stage fright" to so speak he did it at home and went straight to the clinic with it! As long as it gets there within about an hour of being "produced" its ok, any later and the sperm just start dying off and it doesn't give an accurate result.
They test for motility (how the sperm are moving), morphology (whether they are formed normally) and concentration (sperm count) - for the latter they usually want to see about 20 million per ml for it to be considered "normal". My BF had two tests in which the count was considered "low" at 13 mill per ml, and then one in which is was 23 mill per ml. And after that I got pregnant naturally!!
If you are trying for a child you need to both get all the relevant tests as there could be a problem with either or both of you. A Fertility Clinic will test your blood for hormone levels to see if you're ovulating, give you an ultrasound scan or a HyCosY (shoot dye through your tubes to check they are not blocked). I'm not sure which country you live in but in the UK it can all be done on the NHS through your GP - although there is a wait.
If you're not in the UK I guess you would need to find a good clinic, and to be honest it does seem to be expensive if you pay for it privately. IVF can cost up to £4000 and even simple procedures like Sperm Analysis can be £50 or more (not sure what that is in Euros sorry!)
go to your doctor ! they will collect a sample and send it for testing, in the uk this should be free though i dont know what it would cost anywhere else
Yes, you should stop having sexual relations for a couple of days prior to the test for the sperm count to be normal. As far as the cost, it varies from country to country and most is covered by insurance.
You need to avoid having sex for at least 3 days before your husband produces his sample (he must also avoid masturbating). I don't know how much a test costs, but in the UK it's free, and I expect this would be the case in most other European countries.
if you are having fertility treatment then the tests should cost nothing if its on the n.h.s..you should refrain from sex for a couple of days beforehand as what they are looking at are the motility of the sperm and how much live sperm there is
you sound to young if your saying husbant. ITS HUSBAND!
