Hello!! :o) I can empathize with you. I had the same problem and it lasted for over a year. Finally - a doctor figured out that it was being caused by internal 'anal fissures'. [I had two the them] Anal fissures are tears in the lining of the colon. Sometimes they are internal and sometimes they are external. [which means they are on or near the anus] When someone has an anal fissure - a healing mucus forms. It is this mucus that ends up on the anus - and THAT is what causes the itching. [Most of the time - at least] 'Fissures' are most often caused by having especially hard 'stools'. [which is the proper word for 'sh*t'] Within a couple of weeks of slowly adding fiber to what was my horrible diet - the itching problem went away. It comes back every now and then - but that's because I haven't been as careful as I should have been about what I eat. It is also possible that your problem is cause by hemorrhoids. [As some others have suggested] Don't make the mistake of over cleaning yourself. THAT can really irritate the skin and make things worse. And scratching doesn't help either. My problem finally went away AFTER I found the courage to see a doctor. And that's what I suggest you do. I know that's a scary thought - but really - you're only IN the doctor's little examination room for a few MINUTES!! It's worth it - believe me. Good luck and I hope you find a solution to your problem. Craig!! :o)
