Proteinuria is classified according to the relationship of its eitiology to the kidney and also the mechanism inviolved in creating the protein in the urine:

Functional causes (not associated with easily demonstratable systemic or renal damage)
- Severe muscular exertion
- Pregnancy
- Orthostatic Proteinuria (protien settles from standing positions)
Organic causes (associated with demonstratable systemic disease or renal pathology)
- Prerenal proteinuria (protein enters the blood stream before the kidneys and is filtered through them and deposited in the urine, such as fever, venous congestion, renal hypoxia from dehydration, high blood pressure, myxedema, Bence Jones protein)
- Renal proteinuria from primary kidney disease
- Postrenal proteinuria (protein is added into the urine from a point farther down the urinary tract such as: infection of the renal pelvis, UTI, prostatitis, urethritis or from sexual intercourse and the urine is contaminated with vaginal secretions.)

Do follow through with visit to Doctor asap and if necessary Specialist to confirm what is the cause and advice on how to treat.
that's your kidney is not function properly. I think you need to tell your husband to see a doctor as soon as possible. if he delay this any longer in the long term, he might have kidney disease. i know someone that have that problem and later found out that the kidney is no longer working and she need to be dialyzes.
I hate to tell you this but it is possible his kidneys are failing
protein in urine means various things. The first means a very good potential for kidney infections. The second means the potential for kidney stones, caused by calcification of these proteins which make the stones.

Evie is correct about all except the pre-eclampsia. You did not mention that your husband was pregnant.
All the things Evie said are possible (except the pre-eclampsia!) but don't get overly worried, just go and see the Dr- it may not be very serious and easily treatable, just get it checked out as the sooner it is diagnosed the sooner it can be treated.

there are lots of reasons that oyu can have protien in the urine- anything from medication side effects, urinary tract infection or kidney infection, blood pressure problems.. too many to list here. I am assuming that since the doctor found this, he will be ordering more tests ( blood work, etc) to narrow down the reason. Try not to worry about the what ifs, and wait to see what the dcotor and tests say.
I had protein in my urine when i had a serious UTI - my Dr wanted to hospitalise me so it can be serious. Visit your Dr to get it checked out.
this often means that there is some kind of infection,normally it is just a water infection which can be easily treated by medication.

It generally means he has a urine infection, treated with a short course of antibiotics this should clear in a week or so. If not your doctor will do further investigations. Hope that helps
when a relative of mine had this he was diagnosed with diabetes and the protein in his water meant his kidneys were not working properly. but with treatment for the diabetes it was soon sorted.without any harm to his kidneys
