treatments for a recurring bladder infection in a quadrapaligec?

antibotics, flushes, cranberry pills galore - have tried everything the doctors have said and it still come back 2 wks after it clear -- the cultures show nothing - anybody got any ideas

Answers:
Check for Kidney stones.
Hmmm. No stones..
Perhaps you need long term antibiotics?
If you've already had them, then try drinking cranberry juice, not just taking the pills.
Maybe you've got an abscess in there?
Have you had a CT Pelvis?
I still say CT Pelvis.
Make sure there isn't a tuboovarian abscess.
Ask them to treat you for something rarer like TB of the ovary, etc..
You could have some kind of fistula open between colon and bladder.
If you are asking about a guy.
Get treated for prostatitis.

Geez it's hard to be sure about a bladder infection if the cultures are negative. What are the symptoms? How do you know an infecton is present?

You're going to have to rely on doctors to do a little detective work.
There isn't a sure fire way to make sure bladder infections don't come back apart from taking out the bladder (which the surgeons will usually not do just for infections).

In a quadraplegic, there are many risk factors for infection. You just have to persist and work on them.

The big ones that can be addressed:
Immobility
Poor hydration
Long term or recurrent catheterisation - scrupulous sterile technique - antibiotic cover

It might be worthwhile getting a review by a specialist (urologist) because there are some conditions that can irritate the bladder that are not infections.
After the antibiotics are you using the acidophiles like eating yogurt and such. The antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the bad.And as you should know your digestive tract has to have them.
