why do some people get adam's apples while others dont?

Because the ones who don't are female.
Because one of there ancestors had eaten the apple of Adam in the Edens garden it is hereditary

They are just like hard-ons, only men have them.
Every body has an Adam's apple. Only that the girls' are not visible because the neck portion is where they mostly store their fat, same goes to fat men they seem to have lost their apple. But for the skinny ones its very visible, especially when they lie their neck to the back.
