Why do some people question a man's manliness if he only is able to produce daughters ?

My grandparents always used to laugh at this neighbor of theirs because all he had were girls.

It is a result of patriarchal societies such as ours in America. The family line and inheritance is passed through the sons. If a man had no son, the inheritance would pass to his brother or his nephews if his brother was dead.

Biologically, it is a complete fallacy. As a matter of fact, producing only male heirs means that the man is only producing sperm with a defective chromosome since a fetus must have a defective Y chromosome from the father in order to become male. Females have two X chromosomes which means that the man was producing fully functional chromosomes when he fertilized the egg.

So a female baby is the sign of a strong man, especially since he will have to deal with all of the female hormones from his wife AND daughters! ; )
Because of Henry the eighth
I think it has something to do with a son only being able to carry on the family name. I know that if I have kids though, they're taking my name since I'm the eldest of only girls in my generation! It's up to me to carry on the family name!
sperm which makes female are slower and die slower then sperm that make males(which are quicker but also die quicker than female making sperm. Meaning men with bigger "sticks" have a better chance of having males while men with small "sticks" have a greater chance of having females.
Because of genetics. Sex genes are inherited XX (female) or XY (male) except in unusual cases. The female always gives the child an X chromasone, so the gender of the baby is decided by whether it gets an X or a Y from the dad. People jokingly say that if a man only has girls, then his Y chromasomes must not be as strong or something.

The Henry VIII reference is because he kept killing his wives because they only produced daughters. It's ironic because he's the one who determined the sex of the child, not the wife.

The importance of having a son for inheritance or to pass on the name is culturally-based. You'll find that in matriarchal societies, it's not really stressed as much.

It has nothing to do with the anatomy of the man; it's purely chance. All sperm have the same number of chromasomes, and are basically the same size regardless of whether they carry the X or Y.
Men determine the sex of a child. Generally there are more boys born than girls, but there are more women in the world than men. It's really just a matter of chance. Have a great day.
Because men think they rule the world. People used to joke with my dad, saying he must of cursed God in some way (4 girls, no boys). Honestly, I remember being confused by that statement... My dad was such a proponent of girls! He raised 4 strong, independent, successful women... and my mom too.

And actually, they are finding scientific studies that some female bodies will only allow implantation of fertilized male embryos... My MOM read the article to me about a year ago!
I dont know what they say for sure, but it sucks having three girls and 2 bathrooms, I need to build one in the garage for only me. One where I can leave the toilet seat up ;-)
