My boyfriend woke up with red dots all over his back and shoulders. Could this be a virus?

The red "dots" are almost like blemishes in appearance. It looks like the Measles to me, but he has no other symptoms. He did buy some new detergent in the powder form, as we used to use the same exact stuff in liquid. It is only on his back, chest and shoulders. He has nothing on his face, legs or groin area. Can anyone help or offer suggestions? Thank You!

You are on the right track with the detergent.
Hives can be in several different forms.
Give that detergent away and buy the one that you normally use.( I can use powdered Surf or the green liquid; but the blue and purple ones break me out in hives.)
Re-wash everything that has been washed with the other stuff.
If he takes a shower and uses a shower scrub brush with soap on it and scrubs his whole body it will give some temporary relief.
Buy some Benedryl( the generic is cheaper & works the same).
But he needs to take just one pill and before bedtime as it WILL MAKE HIS SLEEPY.
There is a non-drowsy formula that you can buy also.
Where ever he sits in the living room put a clean sheet on the couch or chair for him to sit on as it will not cause more irritation to the area.
Hives have to run their course.
When your body comes into contact with something that it doesn't like than it produces and sends out too much histamine.
Benedryl is an anti-histamine which means that it will help to shut-off the reaction.
But it will take time for the spots to go away.
The detergent may not actually be the answer but it's a good place to start to try and eliminate the things that he has come into contact with.
You may Never find out what it was that caused the reaction.

It could also have been flea bites.

Yes, you should get him an antivirus program. Norton or McAfee are probably the best, but they have free ones out there too like AVG. Order a CD from one of those companies and put it on his back, that should clear up those spots in no time.

If not maybe he was around someone else's or was someone at where he slept that does have a cat or dog.

Herpes kinda looks like measles.I don't know what it is..They might just be pimples or an allergic reaction to the detergent?

It could be a virus, but more likely a bacterial infection. But on the info submitted, the most likely thing would be an allergy to the laundry product. Experiment: re-wash all the clothes in some other product (do NOT use any sort of fabric softener) and see if wearing them makes the problem go away. If not, or if there are other symptoms (fever, headache, stomach, etc.), go see a doctorn.
Sounds like a virus to me, but could also be an allergic reaction, too. I have problems with certain detergents. Powdered detergents have a tendency to stick to clothing fibers, because they don't always dissolve in water. Liquids do. I can't take powdered detergents either. Believe me, if he had measles, he would be very, very ill. You DEFINATELY should see your doctor anyway though. Lay off certain chemicals that are new to him one at a time. That way you can narrow down what the possibilities could be.

Has your boyfriend suddenly changed to a new clothes detergent? My son gets breakouts from certain detergents used in the wash. Right now we use the ones labled "free & clear" because they are usually allergy free.

It can't hurt to let the dr. look at it as well.
I don't think you can take risks with this.If it is allergies u should still have it checked out and make sure that he does not use it anymore.i know some of us don't take allergies seriously but they could actually kill u.Look at the possibiliites.don't take chances take him to Hospital..ASAP.Goodluck

This sounds to me like "Fifth's Disease" also know as Parvovirus B19. The name makes it sound horrible, but its not to much different from chicken pox. Take him to his family doctor- they can prescribe something to help with the itch (if one develops- not all cases do).
