Why wont doctors examine men's prostates?
They fall over themselves to screen women's cervixes.
I can understand a female doctor balking at the thought of performing a digital examination but after all men examine women all the time.
Answers:
I think you are mistaken, Paul R. I've had my prostate (actually a number of glands together) examined a number of times now. Mind you, I am in my late 40s. Usually, younger men don't show symptoms of needing their prostate examined. If you are sure that you need to be examined, ask your doctor to refer you to a proctologist (A doctor specializing in the colon, rectum and anus).
See the following links for more information on the prostate. (You may find the Wikipedia one interesting as it has diagrams which show you where the prostate is situated, as well as disorders that may occur.)
A final note: If you are able to relax yourself for the examination, it is not that uncomfortable.
you must be young. believe me they do. wait till that day comes. you wont forget it.
Because it's too disgusting.
because male doctor love sto see women. maybe gay doctors do examine prostates
because it is too disgusting...
Are you asking this because every time you ask your (presumably) female doc to do this she refuses?
If you have a suspicion that you have a problem with your prostate - then ask for a referral to specialist - they will undoubtedly stick their finger up and ruimmage around.
It is not pleasant, it can be painful, and it is pretty undignified.but hey wahtever floats your boat!
prostates get checked everyday worldwide..,so i dont understand whats the problem..? that it is no fun to perform it,i can understand, and that it no fun to have one,i can understand too..
but a doc saying he/she wont do it..,prolly would end up in my country, losing his/her licence to be a doc..
I don't know your age, but most prostate exams are performed on men at about 40 years old up.
It's not common for young men to need an exam, unless specific symptoms suggest one.
I've never encountered a doctor who refused one.
Women may have more complications at younger ages and particularly at child bearing age.
the men are embarrassed. and docters are lazy .they just recomened you visit hospital .they are happy to areranged .a hospital visit .
you'll get a different response if you live here in the Philippines.. :) We'd LOVE to check you all out!
Personally i'm dreading the day, hope it never comes, when the doc(male or female) says dont worry sir just bend over n relax this wont hurt a bit. Yeah right. Doesn't sound like an enjoyable experience.
There shouldn't be any gender difference in a physician's willingness to perform a rectal examination for prostatitis. There may be no need to include this procedure in every examination. If a recent test showed no enlargement, the test may be skipped. The insurance company's policies may govern the frequency.
they will do if you ask! lol. i think its more popular in women because were like a warm place for infecions etc, and its side us! i dont know! dont worry. if your worried tell them to check you! x
