I just bench-pressed your mother.
whattttttttt?
That's to get different angles of your chest muscle. It's better though to try wider and narrower grips on the bar- that hits the complete muscle. You should do 3 sets of 8-12 reps. When you can do 12, move the weight up. When you are really advanced, try very heavy weight 3 sets of whatever you can do (no less than 3 repetitions).
When you bench press, lying flat exudes the least amount of stress to your body. Incline and Decline benching works different parts of your pecs (upper and lower). You should be able to bench your own weight (unless your very overweight). I'm 150 lbs. and my max is 200. Dont over do it though..the chiroprator will follow!

Everyone has different workout routines, but a standard one is 3-4 sets of 6-8 reps. Some people do pyramids and other workouts though..it's up to you
With the bench down.that's a bench press.
With it up.that's an incline press.
The incline press isolates the more dense portion of your chest and puts more weight on the rear head of your deltoid (the deltoid has three heads Anterior, medial, and posterior).

For endurance and overall strength -
I recommend 3 or 4 sets of 12 to 15 reps. (lighter weight)

For greater mass and power
I recommend 4 or 6 sets of 3 to 5 reps. (Heavier weight)
you should do 3 sets.
1st set: 10 reps
2nd set: 8 reps
3rd set: 7-9 reps
