I want to be a living donor and give a kidney to a friend, but at one time I came in contact with hep B virus,
Want to donate a kidney and want to know if having contracted hep B can I sill be a living organ donor ?
Answers:
Probably not. My wife contracted hep B while working as a nurse back in the days before everybody wore gloves. She can't even donate blood, let alone a kidney. Once you have Hep B, you carry it for life.
doctors check for any diseases before transplant.
Hi when anyone wants to be a donor Drs in the hospital have to do various tests and one off them is to check weather you have any diseases, infections, etc.So dont worry you will be fully checked ist before anything happens then if your results come bck negative it will all go ahead.Well done for being a donor to your friend.
Chances are you cannot be a donor. I came in contact with the B virus from my brother when I was younger and Red Cross will not take my blood because the B virus antibodies showed up in my blood. The B virus will not bother me but could give the virus to others through blood contact.
I don't think they will take your kidney.
