Firstly, well done you for asking about doing proper exercise rather than a faddy crash diet - pat on the back! I lost one and a half stones over eight months through swimming once or twice a week for half and hour and eating slightly smaller portions. It is a much slower change than you would get from an extreme diet, but the weight has stayed off, I am much fitter and more toned and I really enjoy the exercise. So best of luck and keep it up!

Swimming will get you fit in no time,but also eat lots of fresh fruit and veg,be wary not to get too obsessed with this..the media,s idea of slim is not o.k..we live in a sex obsessed society and we are juged on what we look like..so my best advice is to visit the doctor before one embarks on this..perhaps swimming with a freind will be good.

Depends how much weight you need to lose in the first place. But half an hour of swimming every other day should be enough to start you off, providing your eating sensibly too.
Unfortunately it is not how many times you go swimming that makes you slim, it actually depends on the amount of effort you put in to begin with. You need to get your heart rate up , this will burn calories. to do this you have to be able to swim constantly for around 25 minutes. This will burn the calories and tone you up, and it is less stress full in the water because the water supports your joints and muscles without it putting excess pressure on them
