Hernia surgery recovery time?

i had a hernia surgery 2/13/06 on the left groin area. i was told that i was going to have just stitches, not the mesh. since my surgery my right groin area were i had the repair done the skin feels numb and gets swelled up like a golf ball. so i went to a urologist i was told it's ok. i feel that this is not normal for a hernia surgery. it's been one year and a month since my surgery and i still feel pain on the cut.

The mesh is a fine piece of material that assists to hold the repair in place. It should not make a difference to pain. It is normal for the skin to feel numb around the incision site. This is due to small nerves being cut for the incision. Sometimes surrouding nerves will take over and you will regain feeling but other times you will be permanently numb.
I have a scar over 19 months old that is still totally numb - I also have greater sensitivity around the area. Sounds wierd - sensitive yet numb.
I am not sure about the swelling however a Urologist would be the best person to advise you as they deal with the anatomy involved in hernias (inguinal canal).
