Pins in Bunion Surgery are permanent?

Does anyone know if the pins left in your toe after surgery is left there permanently after bunion surgery? How is that dealt w/at the airport? Does this mean you can never bend your big toe? Can you do sports, be active and run after bunion surgery? Can you wear high heels once it's healed? Thanks

This should have been explained to you by your surgeon!

Most pins are surgically removed any where from 6-12 months after they are put in. A small pin for a toe my be left in for life.

A small pin for a toe will not be enough for detectors to pick up (if it is picked up they will manually scan you). Sometimes Doctor's give you a medical document explain that medical devices are in your body, what locations, etc. but I doubt that will be the case with one pin.

It is possible you will never regain flexibility of the toe but if you follow your Doctor's orders, allow your injury to cure properly, you will be able to play sports again but I would go 50/50 on wearing high heals.

GOOD LUCK!
