I'm not a doctor or anything so I don't really know. Ask your doctor anout swimming. I know it is great excercise. My friend had leg surgery and I let her come swim in my pool and it is making her stronger. It doesn't hurt her. You can float around and kick a little.
Sounds like a lower leg injury to your peroneal muscles/ anterior tibialis muscle. The compartments or sheaths can become restricted cutting off blood supply to the muscle. The best thing for you to do is rest the muscle until the swelling subsides. Once this happens a physical therapist can help you with exercises to promote healing and muscle balance.
exercise with light weights and eat protein.
