Ex-smoker & ex-drinker here. YOU'RE THE MAN ! After you quit drinking I know you felt that bubble inside you that said you are in control of your life now. And you know what a rush that was. Now the big push, and you will feel exhiliration you have never ever felt before.
Do you know that the lung tissue is one of the fastest healing in the whole body. After 24 hours, changes begin - for the better. GOOD LUCK MAN. HANG IN THERE. I'M YOUR FAN.
good luck and keep believing. you have managed some big changes allready,so this will be a piece of cake. put all the money you save into a jar and then treat yourself to something you want to do or have.
I'm not an ex smoker but I give lots of luck, you will need it, Ive tried to quit and failed twice.
Hints:
stay away from smokers
no smoking in your house
don't go where cigarette smoke will be present to "trigger" you into a craving

Good luck. I think the best advice is take things one day at a time. If you are focused on your goal you will achieve it.
You are everything. Cigarettes are nothing.
I chewed a lot of minty gum and this may sound stupid but the BIGGEST problem with me was the habit of having a cigarette in my hand so I started carrying a pencil around and holding it like a cigarette to help fulfill that side of the habit.. It worked for me I have been smoke free for over 8 years now! it is so worth it..
Your smell changes, your taste changes, you can breathe again and you don't stink all the time..
I really didn't have any luck with quitting smoking until I started to follow the whole AA model a little bit. I told myself that I wasn't going to have a cigarette today. Sometimes I told myself I wasn't going to have one for the next hour, the next ten minutes etc. Every time I thought about never having another one I got all panicked and had to have one immediately! So this really worked for me. Over the years I have had one on occasion while drinking or something but then no more.
I am married to a non-smoker so I had great peer support! Try to find some little treats for yourself. I would shower and put on expensive perfume knowing that the lovely fragrance would last! You could take the occasion to travel to California for instance where there is no smoking in bars etc. Save up the money you save not smoking for a trip to a smoke free place! Enjoy going to bed immediately after having sex instead of having to get up to smoke a cigarette! It's the little things that keep you going.
CONGRATULATIONS! I quit cold turkey let's see.
One year, six months, three days, 5 hours, 46 minutes and 39 seconds. 16477 cigarettes not smoked, saving $2,883.29. Life saved: 8 weeks, 1 day, 5 hours, 5 minutes.
According to my "quit meter" which I downloaded for free from here: http://www.silkquit.org/sqmmiv/Default.aspx It tracks your progress and it's a great deterrent to a smoke when you have a bad crave.
My advice is go cold turkey, drink lots of water, walk daily and remind yourself that a "crave" only lasts for 10 seconds. You can do ANYTHING for 10 seconds, right? Stay positive, find things to help you relax and find supportive people. online, friends, co-workers, whatever. Whyquit.com is also a great site.
You can do this! It will be tough the first 72 hours, after that your body is not chemically dependent on nicotine (Unless you use the patch.). It was rough for me for a week or so, then it got better. I still crave one every now and then. Usually when I am angry or stressed. I remind myself that NO ONE is worth my failure. I go months now without thinking about it. You'll get there. YAY for you!!
Good for you! I quit my three pack a day habit 14 years ago, on January 29, 1992 to be exact.
I remember my last cigarrette as if it were yesterday.
I couldn't have done it without the nicotine patches. Believe me, it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. The patches took care of the nicotine craving (I am convinced of that), so the hardest part was what to do with my hands, and with the extra time as weird as it sounds. When there was nothing to do there was always the cigarrette to fill the moment.
The smells were the first to come back, and to this day I marvel
with them. Then the morning coughs went away, and I could climb stairs without wheezing.
It has been good. It makes me proud. I feel great. I could do it. I did it!
You did it with alcohol, so I'm sure you can. Good luck!
Trust the patches to help your willpower.
Think of feeling sick when you even consider taking a drag off anyone's cigarette.. That works very well!! Trust me, you'll even lower yourself to do that!! Check out my best answer for another smoker who hasn't given up but has cut down from 40 to 9. Eating fruit helps, too, and is good for you. I took up jogging and that gives me the burning sensation in the chest as well as the high I got from smoking. That, in contrast to smoking, is good for you.
Congrats on giving up alcohol. You've come this far, you may as well finish the rest.. Go on you!
Good luck!!
Well, I quit 5 months ago, and I did it when I had an awfull cold. I didn't feel like smoking because I had a sore throught. After the first few days, I was just so proud of it that I decided to keep it up.
One suggestion is to put a straw in your mouth and inhale once in a while to give the illusion of smoking. Also, I found it helpful to walk by smoke once in a while and inhale the 2nd hand aroma. It helped comfort me. Just be aware that the 2 week hump, and the six week hump are a bit rough. But after you pass those, you'll start feeling great.
Hope this helped a bit. Good luck to you!
Great! All the best to you!
I've now been away from smoking for over a hundred days. It's not easy but not impossible either. I've received a lot of help from quitnet. Why not join us on quitnet.com &

good luck with that ive been thrying to quit for 11 years
Please do not use nicotine patches. They are an addictive source. The point about quitting cigs is to flush the nicotine out of your system. I gave up eight years ago as the adrenaline from smoking was affecting a newly discovered medical condition and you have to go cold turkey. It is painful but worth it because it is the nicotine which is the rough in the cigarettes. Please no patches, they are a marketing addiction.
Good luck. I quit a year ago. It does get easier. It'll consume your thoughts at first and you'll even dream about it. But don't give in. It's worth it.
get on! making the desicions the hardest bit
You will only stop smoking if you want to stop.
Your local GP can give you heaps of help and advice.
good luck
I wonder if you may become dependent on Nicotine patches or Gum?
You need to reduce your dependency on Nicotine.
One method is tapering off.
I switched from Dunhill to Dunhill Lights. Later I switched to Kent Golden Ones Ultra Light cigarettes. Smoked them for one month then quit. That was in August 2001. I have not smoked since.
- take long walks instead of smoking;
- drink water - a lot
It's never easy. but it's worth the energy !
Remember : it's a great move for your health, your family and your friends !
Good luck !
I prepared myself for months saying i will quit. I finally quit on 1st July 2006 used patches for a week then tried the gum it tasted that bad i spat it out and continued without anything. It was hard to start with, it's the habit more than anything, you just have to keep your hands busy i spent time in the garden, at work i was fine as brain was being used. Just keep telling yourself you are going to do it and you will. 55 days for me now. Try sugar free mints they helped a lot. Good Luck
You are awesome! This did it for me. I took all the money I didn't spend smoking and bought wildly foolish fun stuff just for me. I took friends out for ice cream and they had just come out of a cult and needed clothes and fun. I had a ball with them at a thrift store. Kids trying on their first clothes that had color and short sleeves. Whatever gives you a grin to do, do that with this bit of new found wealth.
I'm less proud of this one. I knew a guy that I really didn't like or admire in any way. He quit and I figured if that no good *^%$# could do it then there was no reason I couldn't.
Patches can give some really wierd (not always bad) dreams. Just watch for it. Try doing things that you don't assocate with smoking, like swimming, jogging, library. You sound like a brave person but be nice to yourself except don't smoke. I wish you tons of luck and courage. It WILL get better in three days. not back to normal but better
