How can I learn to swallow pills?

I have a very hard time

Answers:
My husband too has a very difficult time with even the smallest pill. I can take several and not be fazed.

My mom showed me when I was a kid. Put the pills in your mouth, take a big swig of water or milk, or whatever, toss your head back so that the pills go to the back of your mouth, and swallow! Mind over matter.
i have something esle you can start with...
ok

put the pill in the back of ur mouth

make sure ur mouth is moist

then

take water tilt ur head back

and swallow as if its food
I started by swallowing Tic Tacs for practice, then I worked up to M&M's, once I was used to the feeling, I was able to swallow real pills.

And for those who are giving me thumbs down, he's an article from parenting magizine,,,did you think I was making this up? You can't practice with real medicine!

Teaching How to Swallow a Pill

------------------------------...
By Wendy Haaf
The best time to show your child how to swallow a pill: when he's feeling fine. Make it a game and he'll be set to take medication when he's really sick.

By 4 or 5, most kids can start with "practice pills," such as cake sprinkles, says Danita Czyzewski, Ph.D., pediatric psychologist at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston. Make it clear that this is a learning game and that the pill isn't real, because real pills make kids anxious — and it's dangerous to confuse medicine with candy. Then:

1. Place a sprinkle on your own tongue and swallow it with a drink of water, keeping your head straight.

2. Now have him put one on the middle of his tongue too — not so far back that he gags — and then swallow it with a drink of water.

3. Work up to larger substitutes, such as candy buttons or M&M's Minis.

Remember that it's harder to swallow when you're tense, so if he resists, back off and try again a few weeks or months later.

put it in the very back of your throat where you almost gag and swallow fast it will work. or try applesauce or pudding or whatever you like.
I have problems too, I fill my mouth up with water first, put the pills in and then swallow.. works like a charm. Try only one at a time first.. and only enough water so you can swallow it all down in one gulp.. good luck... don't choke..
Look at a picture of me...you'll want to swallow
you throw the pill deep into your mouth, then imagine that you don't have anything in your mouth, then just swallow water.. this is how i do it =)
put the pill in the back of your mouth then put alot of water in your mouth then swallow

hope this helps
Put the pill inside a spoonful of applesauce, and don't think about it- just swallow!
My mom taught me this as a young kid. I had a hard time swallowing pills for some reason. So she used to make me peanut butter sandwiches, or whatever it was and would put the pill into the food. Of course I knew she was doing it, and she would tell me, but somehow having the pill inside food made it easier for me to swallow.

My sister was worse and hard a difficult time swallowing pills. So sometimes she would smash it up with a knife, and then swirl it around in water until it was dissintigrated as best as it could be, and then drink the nasty stuff down. Of course having a glass of juice or something to wash down the taste right afterwards!

good luck to you!
keep it on ur tongue n just swallow it!. :-)
my god... u got some fd' up answers 2 this questoin. O.k. try crushin it up n mixin it w/ jelly, yogurt , puddin. works w/ my 10 AND 19 yr old!
Swallow one at time between sips of water.

Also, I've worked with head trauma patients and they just are learning to swallow again...but I learned that a spoonful of pudding with the pill in it will work. Don't crush up your meds like the previous answerer said because some meds have a protective coating that is only supposed to be broken when your stomach acids disolve the medication.

You know I've also worked with patients who said they've been on pills for their whole life and they still have a hard time swallowing it.

Don't get discouraged if you have difficulty swallowing pills, there are others out there have difficulty too and they've been doing it quite a while.
