Does cracking your knuckles really cause arthritis?
Answers:
It can do because cracking the knuckles causes strain on the muscles/tendon which can lead to Athritis in later life.
Try it and see.
Seriously, though, cracking one's knuckles doesn't seem like a good strategy to me.
i dont know about that, but i know it will build up calcium deposits and make them huge and gross looking..i still cant stop though
Been doing it for the last 35 years and I'm ok..
yes it does and it cause other problems as well. it makes your knuckles even bigger and its harder to get rings on and off.
I hope not. As I am a Goalkeeper, I do it before every match.
i have no idea but i hate the noise of that!
it makes me cringe!
It can. It creates gaps where calcification can form, causes swelling and pain. I used to pop my left hip out when I danced, I now have osteo arthritis there. Knees pop when you squat? Yep.
NO!! THE CRACKING SOUND IS JUST THE FLUID IN YOUR NUCKELS BEING PUSHED TO THE SIDE BY THE AIR IN YOUR KNUCKELS. IT WAS ON ALOT OF SHOWS MYTHBUSTERS, DR.KNOW etc.
yeaah so dont do it ! or you will suffer in your old age !
My Mum always played piano through out her life and had a habit of doing this before playing, eventually her knuckles were riddled with very painful arthritis and we always blamed this habit for it.
it will not help you with the arthritis because I have it and used to pop knuckles now i am paying for it
Maybe don't know only if thats the case why do people get it in their feet knees and other joints
maybe my sister said that
no it does not cause arthritis. gas builds in your joints, and when you pop them it releases that gas. the gas then slowly builds back up in them over a few hours. if you have noticed when you pop your knuckles, you can't pop them again for a while, that is why. as long as you do not force them to pop, it will not hurt you at all.
Iv,e been cracking my knuckles, my toe's,, elboes, neck I have been told the same thing,i'm 58 no arthritis.I not saying it's not true.but not for me!
you,d better stop now.
or you could carry on for 30 years and find out for sure.
I'm not sure, but my science teacher told my class that if people keep cracking their knuckles or fingers, each time they do it, an air bubble starts to form between the bones on that finger or knuckle. If they keep it up, the bones in their fingers could become disconnected. THIS IS THE TRUTH!
That's why everyone in my class stopped cracking their fingers and knuckles. You should to.
I don't know if that is an old wive's tale or not.
As per everyones comments about gas bubbles - Nitrogen gas bubbles are released in the synovial fluid, which cushions the joints of the knuckles. This is what the cracking noise is from. I did read a study a few years back that suggested that long term cracking could casue damage wherby nitrogen crystals would be formed in the synovial fluid, which leads to inflammation and pain in the joints (ie syptoms of arthritis). I cant remember the mechanisim though. hope that helps a bit.
keep doing it and you will find out.
