I was lifting something yesterday, when I injured my back. It was bearable after it happened, but..?
...throughout the day, it got progressively worse. If I lay for sometime, it is very hard to get up. My left leg causes pain in my back when I lift it. I don't have any noticeable numbness. Tylenol ES, did not work. Ibuprofren didn't work great either. What should I use to treat this? A friend mentioned that it is probably a pinched nerve that needs to work itself out, but I have no swelling. A heat pack did not do anything for me. The only way to comfortably lie down is on my side.

Ahh this happened to me once while doing laundry, it hurt so bad but other than tenseness there where no outward physical signs of injury. It was a a lower back injury similiar to a spain but with no swelling.
The pain is worsened by rotating your pelvis, is what my PT told me, don't sit with legs crossed. Try and sit symmetrical and with good posture will speed the recovery.
Tiger's balm ore ICYHOT work good, but are often expensive. Try this, take a hot shower. Get a friend or relative or signifigant other to massage your back with lotion immediately after the shower to loosen tenseness. Vicks has menthol camphor which is a main ingredient in many back salves, rub this on the sore part. The menthol will numb the pain, though it might give you a burning sensation on the area you put it on this is normal.
As for medication wise, take Aspirin (which can be used as a fever reducer and thus helps calm tension, inflamation, and swelling) or Aleve (which helps with inflamtion). A tea made out of chamomile will help. Celestial Season's Tension Tamer is great for relaxing while having an injury.
An esoteric method using herb lore would be to make your own tea out of willows bark and or burdock root. Rosehips and peppermint will hide the bitter taste of both these things. But trust me this tea usually works.
Otherwise try not lying on your side- it rotates you pelvis and as I said above this can further the inury. Lying on your back with low elevation for your head (one pillow not more) will help greatly.
I hope you feel better. If these tips don't help within 4 days see a Physical therapist.
i would take somr pain releivers and ir that dont help go to the doctors
No home remedies are good for a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve. Either live with the pain until you heal or go to a doctor and get some narcotics.

I'm not sure what it is but i had a similar thing. it got better after about a month. if it is a pinched nerve you might want to try a chiropractor.
Got to the doctor and have it checked. They may prescribe a muscle relaxer along with a pain pill.
Alieve has been know to work. You might consider your Physician prescribing you a muscle relaxer. Your story sounds like me a month ago. Goodluck
You should see a dr. pronto. Leg pain stemming from back pain is a classic sign of a slipped disk. Catching it early could mean the difference between a few sessions of therapy and big-time surgery. Call an ortho first thing Tues., and in the meantime don't life anything!
How old are you? If your old then you should not pick up things that are to heavy for you. If your Young then start lifting weights. I think you should get your back treated because this does not sound good at all. Go see a Doctor who can take the pain from your back. If not get your wife, girlfriend, or go to a misuse to massage you. That will relax you from the pain..I think. It's worth a shot. Only I suggest you to go see a Doctor, since it sounds bad.
