any idea what my boyfriend could be sick with?

My boyfriend has been sick since friday and it has just been getting worse. He has been throwing up, his whole body is weak, he has the chills, and he has a headache that is way worse than any migraine he has every had. He went to the doctor yesterday and they told him it was a viral infection and they dont kno why he has a headache. And if he wasn't better by today to go back to the doctor. Any other ideas what it could be?

Answers:
A viral infection.

He needs an anti-emetic (compazine or something similar), then he needs fluids, get some propel, it has electrolytes and not too much sugar.

Once he starts getting his body rehydrated, he will feel better, have him talke aleve, will help the headache and over all achiness. Then have him drink and sleep.

How high is the fever, or does he have one?
Does he have sore joints, sore throat. would say he may just have the FLU Virus.

What Are the Symptoms of Mononucleosis?

The early symptoms of mononucleosis resemble those of the flu, including:

Severe fatigue.
Headache.
Sore throatSore throat, which sometimes can be very severe.
Chills, followed by a fever.
Muscle aches.
After a day or two, the following additional symptoms may occur:

Swollen lymph nodes.
JaundiceJaundice (a yellow tinge to the skin and eyes).
A measlesmeasles-like skin rashskin rash anywhere on the face or body; sometimes the rash develops suddenly after taking amoxicillin for a severe sore throat.
Tiny red spots or bruise-like areas inside the mouth, especially on the roof of the mouth (palate).
Soreness in the upper-left abdomen (from an enlarged spleen).
Call Your Doctor If:

You have been experiencing mono symptoms, particularly for longer than 10 days, or if you have a severe sore throat for more than a day or two; you need to be examined by a doctor to rule out other illnesses, such as strep throatstrep throat or --- less likely -- leukemialeukemia or infectious hepatitishepatitis.
You develop swollen lymph nodes all over your body, which may be a sign of tuberculosis, cancer, or human immunodeficiency virus (see AIDS).
You develop abdominal pain, which may indicate a ruptured spleen. Seek emergency medical treatment immediately.
Rash and headache occur together, which might be signs of meningitismeningitis.
You develop a rash consisting of many tiny red spots (called petechiae), which could be a sign of a low platelet count or other serious illness such as meningitis.
do u think it could be the west nile virus? those symptoms sound like the ones that i heard about on the news.
Go back! Demand a spinal tap - not fun, but if the worst headache ever, it should be worked up.
It's either AIDS or Alzheimers, so drop him off at the doctors office and if he makes his way home, don't screw him.
Everything I've read says take the "worst headache of your life" very seriously. Go back. Stay until you have answers.
dehydration can cause your temperature to be elevated which, in turn, can cause a headache. also heaving from throwing up can also cause pressure (intercranial) which can cause a headache. sounds like he should go to the emergency room for iv fluids if his symptoms persist.
Just to follow up on some of what phoenixheat said: Mono does feel like the flu, just a whole lot worse. From the symptoms you gave, it sounds like your boyfriend does just have the flu. I know that when I had mono, I definitely knew that it was way worse than any flu I'd ever had. My throat didn't hurt right away though, that took about two weeks. Instead, at first I just felt very tired and my head and neck hurt incredibly bad. I also had a moderate fever, and my left side hurt right around my ribcage (from the swelling of the spleen). I would recommend that if your boyfriend doesn't feel better by tomorrow that he go back to the doctor, and they will recommend if he needs to be tested for mono or not. Oh, and also watch your own symptoms. Mono is shared through saliva, and a person is most contagious in the 4-6 weeks BEFORE they come down with symptoms.
I had the same symptoms aside from the headaches and found out it was a Immune System disorder.you should consult and infectious diseases physician right away before it get any worse. The truth is you never know what it may be until its too late! Could be Lupus or any various other kinds of AutoImmune Diseases though!
Is he around an area where he might have come in contact with a tick? Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever has those symptoms. Also, Brown Recluse spider bites. He would have a rash, or red bump where the bite would occurr. Also, has he come in contact with anyone who has spinal menigitis? I wish him all the best.
sounds like the flu
