Anyone know if minocycline helps with an infected naval piercing? I have taken it for bacterial infections b4.
It isn't horrible, but about 8 days old, with a red ring extending about 1/4 inch from the puncture spot, and some swelling, but nothing MASSIVE.. trying to head off infection without losing the new peircing. SEROIUS ANSWERS Only PLEASE, if you don't know please don't waste my e-mail space!

swelling is a natural part of healing-the body swells around a wound to prevent bacteria and debris from entering and causing infection. Infections are usually red, swollen, sore, warm to the touch, yellow/green pus, (white or slightly yellow is fine, normal lymph/dead cells leaving the body) also some are shiny-typically lobes. Might you be playing with it to much or over cleaning it? Navel piercings take around 9 months to heal and can be extremely finicky so be patient.

wats naval piercing?
The most natural thing possible to use is salt water solution and bathe the area a couple of times a day. This will not also keep it clean, but help the healing process. I have healed all my peircings that way and i have a fair amount and have never had any issues. Also make sure the metal is of good quality, cheap metal that can contain nikel can cause irritation and infection with alot of ppl. Surgical steel or titanium is the best to use.
Sounds like it may already be infected. The best suggestion would be to let your piercer look at it and determine if it is indeed infection or if it is just part of the normal healing. Some piercings look rather odd the first month or so while the body is getting used to the foriegn object being stuck in it.
For now, keep it clean with regular soap and water, might try also making sure your pants don't come in contact with it to avoid irritation. I would say Neosporin but some piercers don't agree. (Im not a piercer, just a piercee LOL)
And the nurse in me says not to use a medication that wasn't specifically prescribed for the problem. Best bet is if your piercer says its infected to follow up with your MD or the local health dept. :)
Good luck!
one of the best things i believe to use is called bactine you can get it at walmart or pretty much anywhere. i used this with all my piercings, but if you want it straight from my little booklet thing that they gave me "quality liquid anti-microbial/antibacterial soap (i used satin if you can purchase it from your piercer) also, as good as it is to keep it clean, you may be cleaning too much, they recommend twice a day for six to eight wks, best way to clean is in the shower after you've done everyhting else, that way the skin is soft around the piercing n allows it to slide easier. if you need more help you r more than welcome to im me
