16 year old son has blood drawn and fainted and had the dry heaves.what causes that?has big headache now?

i have the same problem sometimes (23/m) and its not because of fear of needle or anxiety.. some people just have less amounts of blood to start with and as a response to your body losing more then its use to, it shuts down.. also some people have thinner blood and when giving blood can give it at a faster rate, which the body sometimes cannot handle and that can cause the symptoms you described as well.. its not a big problem other then the discomfort for the patient at the time..

I'll bet he had an anxiety or a panic attack, especially if he's nervous about having blood drawn.
i had to get my blood drawn i vomitted then puked after and now i ahve a huge fear of needles

Shock most likely. It is traumatic for a child to have blood taken.

He may also be experiencing some low blood sugar. Fruit juice might help.
Did he have anything to eat before he drew blood. If not that could be the answer.

My brother (13), almost faints when he has blood drawn. It's probably a sort of panic attack. My friend get's them sometimes, but she's diabetic and has to use ingections.
He may be anemic, or when the blood was drawn, he did not have anything to eat that day. It is always advised that you should have breakfast the day you have blood drawn.
My little sis has done this for years she just freaks out and cant calm down the last time they needed two vials from the both of us I was done quickly but she got so nervous they couldn't draw the blood and instead had to get the little butterfly needles they use on babies and put it in her finger to get it out we were there about 30 minutes just to draw blood the best thing to do is bring along a game boy, cd player or something and dont let him look maybe it willl help keep him calm the headache was probably from lack of oxygen if he can chill out he will be okay
this is probably slight dehydration and a lowering of the blood pressure, this happened to my daughter, drink extra water/sodas before and after, eat a snack before and after, and don't rush off, rest for a while.
Even adults can have this happen - at blood donor sessions they give a cup of tea and a cracker if people look wobbly
Alot of people react like this to blood. I'm ok as long as I don't look at it. I fainted once after gettind blood drawn, the next time, the nurse gave me a candy and said the sugar would help.
Some people react negatively at the sight of blood, or even needles. If he fainted and now had a horrid headache and heaves you need to have him seen by his dr or in the ER as when he fainted he could have hit his head. Fainting after a blood draw is not an uncommon occurance, but the heaves and headache are.
I fainted once myself while having blood drawn. The mistake I made was watching it being done. Since then I never watch and haven't had anymore problems. I guess some people cant stand the sight of there own blood or maybe just the method of how its done. I could be nerves.

Sounds like you babied him too much or overreacted yourself when he was a child during boosters and regular shots.
This usually happens when you do not have enough sugar and water in your system, your body is going through shock from a loss of blood and does not have much sugar / water to compensate for the difference.

What he should have done / do is put ice on his forehead, lay down with his legs in the air for about 15 minutes while drinking a lot of juice.
