7 Year Old with Long Term Diarrhea!!?

My son is 7 and has been battling diarrhea for over 6 months. I have taken him to the Dr. and he has been given antibiotics and a restricted diet. He is still battling with the problem. What could be the cause? Parasites, IBS, allergies?? Should I take him back to the Dr? He hasn't gotten dehydrated because I have been watching that but my heart breaks because he cant go any where without having toilet issues. Please give me some suggestions as to how I can start helping him heal. Thank you.

I agree, go to the gastroenterologist. Keep pressing the doctors until they solve this. I went through this for five years from ten to fifteen years of age. Mine was a rupturing appendix (don't worry, my case was extremely rare!). But my mom kept pushing the doctors until one finally figured out the answer (in the nick of time he told us). Until answers come try some of the remedies that the others have suggested such as: peppermint extract, asidopholus (incorrect spelling), staying away from dairy, and more: mix nutmeg and sugar (as you would cinnamen and sugar) and put it on lightly buttered bread or toast (the butter is to make it stick and the bit of sugar is to make it appealing to a kid). Nutmeg is a natural stool hardener. Yogurt has asidopholus in it-- though not like you would find in a health food store, but it is more appealing to a kid as well. Keep pushing fliuds to prevent dehydration, and good luck! Also, if he has abdominal pain as well, don't forget to tell the doctors exactly where (on his abdomen), when (time of day, after certain activities or meals etc.), and how (when you press on his abdomen or release the pressure).

Take him back and get any and every test available. Try a homoeopath as well. Sometimes natural cures work better than pharmaceutical. Take him for an allergy test as well.
find another doctor, and get a second opinion, that can be really taxing on his little body.
Chapaton is right. Your son needs to see a Ped. Gastroenterologist (I know that prob. isn't spelled right) and they can do a colonoscopy to try and figure out what the problem is. I have IBS and believe me, it is no picnic, so I understand what you and your son are going through, but 6 months is a long time. Have they tried giving him prescription strength Immodium?
Chapaton is right on; get a referral to a pediatric gastro-doc. Something's wrong with your kid if he's been having diarrhea for half a year. Hopefully, it's easily treatable. They will probably ask for a stool sample from your son so be prepared to have to "take one" from the toilet.
Sometimes when a person has an intestinal upset, and are given antibiotics, a bacterial called C.diff. (long name, google it) can take over. This happened to my husband after food poisioning and a course of antibitoics. thye tested him for everything then finally found the problem..Tell the doctor you want him tested for C. diff. It takes a stool sample but it not caught, can be very serious as it takes a particular drug to get rid of it.
i agree with chapaton take him to a pediatric gastreologist it could be ibs but no one can be sure until the proper tests are done but for now try giving him some peppermint oil you can find it at whole foods market or trader joes and also try immodium good luck
antibiotics can make diareaha worse.
take him to a different doctor.
but i would also suggest trying acidophillus capsules.
you can find them in the vitamin section. they help restore the beneficial bacteria in his intestines.

also, avoid milk and milk products.
also avoid food coloring. it causes all kinds of health problems.

He needs to be seen by a specialist right away. This cannot go on and there are too many possible causes to simply keep taking him to his regular pediatrician. The problem should have already been diagnosed. For his sake I hope you find your answer soon.
