Does anyone know what causes excessive mucus?

I am 30 years old, and have multiple health problems.. Right now I am experiencing excessive mucus really thick and nasty. I am also having right side pain. I think there is a connection. Doctors don't.. What do you think? Any ideas on what could be causing it?
I also have other thinkingly unrelated problems.

This sounds kind of some sinus infection to me.May be you need to tell your doctor to ask for some test if you have really bad sinus.You may need to drain sinus cavity and may be it can give you some relief.Also notice yourself if you are exposing to environmental facts .i mean some pollution in the air where you live.It could even inside of the place you are living in.You may also wants to consider not to eat some certain stuff in order to contol m ucus. For Example:Yogurt,Ice cream,creamy stuff,could be curlpits too,but offcourse you may need to wait little longer to see actual results,but hey nothing wroing to try these.Just you have to stay away from the some stuff.Good luck.

Smoking could be a problem.
it sounds if you have an upper respitory infection ,breathing problems,coughing,thick mucus. you will need an antibiotic to clear this up and do not drink milk or milk products as the mucus will get thicker and hard to bring up and get rid of , stay on a clear liquid diet and soft foods ,soup,jello,etc till this clears up
Mucus is caused by bronchial disturbances. If you are a smocker then yoy dont have to look too far, but if you are not then you must consider going for a chest Xray to see if your lungs are in order. It is not normal for you to be producing so much mucus you need to pray its not TB if it is you need to pray its not HIV.
ear infection or slight chest infection can cause mucus a slight cold or chill could be the problem
