I work in a medical/surgical floor and I take care of all kinds of recovering patients. What kind of surgery are you having? Everyone recovers differently.
I have had several minor surgeries in my life. It's okay, not fun, but totally workable. Just try to relax and go with the flow, and it will be a lot easier. The doctors will be keeping a close eye on you during and after, and they will make sure you have what you need to stay at least somewhat comfortable in the days after. Good luck to you.
Depends upon the type of surgery, the sedation method, your age/sex/health etc. Everyone is different. If you are under 30, you should recover quickly. Good luck.
you are going to be just fine. I've had at least 5 done. The pain will go away. I promise..Just relax and take it easy.
That depends on what type of surgery you're getting. I had my gallbladder out. They were able to do it with lasers, so it was much better than if they had to cut me open the old fashion way. My recovery was fast. About 5 days and I went back to work. Don't get me wrong, the first few days it was really uncomfortable and a little painful when I slept. But the painkillers took care of that and made it a big, warm, fuzzy blur. The hardest part was the transition in the hospital from a morphine drip to vicodin. Just tell them you're in more pain than you really are. And always take your pain pills when you're scheduled to, whether you're in pain or not. It'll keep the pain from creeping up on you. Also, don't foget to eat. Your body needs food to heal, especially vitamin c and protein, drink Boost shakes if you have to when your stomach is upset, but eating is very important.
Relax and take it easy until you feel you're ready to go back to normal activities, and ease back into them. And a positive attitude will help a lot, too.
I almost forgot, if you're a smoker, do everything you can not to smoke at least 2 days before the surgery, it will help you immensely. And use your time in recovery to quit. It'll be much easier.
Recovery times have a very wide range of variation. You omitted key information -- the procedure you're having. Length of recovery depends on the surgical procedure, whether it's minor or major, sometimes on the particular technique used, your overall health, your age, your individual healing pattern, whether or not there are postop complications, postop nutrition status, the quality of postop care you receive or give to yourself. The type or duration of anesthesia used has no impact on postop healing and I don't think you were asking how long it takes to recover from anesthesia.
I have had 2 surgeries and both of them went great.. Had really great doctor and nurses were even better.. Don't worry about a thing I am sure you will be in great hands.. Good luck on yours
I had two surgeries within my first week of life (although I don't remember them).
I've had wisdom teeth removed.
I've had sinus surgery (standard roto-rooter job).
I've had a bi-lateral lung transplant.
The anesthesia part is very easy - you don't realize you're drifting off to sleep. Most of the anesthesias today also have a chemical that makes you forget anything that happens during the surgery - just in case you experience something unpleasant. You'll likely have some gas and bloating after the surgery - common side effect that will take care of itself. You may not be able to eat solid foods for a couple of days, it depends on the type of surgery, etc. Let me tell you, even the broth is good at that point! :)
You'll likely feel groggy when you wake up and some anesthesia does carry side effects - you may experience temperature changes that aren't normal for you, some people have nausea, etc. Your doctors should be able to provide comfort for any of the issues that come up, you just need to communicate with them.
I've had very little pain from any of my surgeries. The pain management was great and I was never on any of the meds long enough to have to worry about addiction.
The day after my transplant I walked 500+ feet with an IV, catheter, vital signs monitor and 4 chest tubes all attached to me. By the fourth day after I was on the treadmill with no problem (and breathing!!).
Try to not stress about it as it can delay your healing process. Also keep a sense of humor - there's a lot of it about medical stuff if you just don't take everything more seriously than necessary. Be sure to talk to your doctors before the surgery about any questions you have - the more you understand about the process and what to expect the less stressed you'll be.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
I've had a salpingectomy (ectopic pregnancy) and 2 C-sections. I didn't have a problem with recovery at all. If you are having any kind of surgery in the core of your body, be sure and walk walk walk as soon as you can, it eases everything. You will recover faster.
Tell your doctor and anesthesiology any fears you have, they will be very kind and understanding.and the nurses will treat you very well. Relax into it and don't fight it - you will be fine.
It all depends on what kind of surgery you are having. I have had about 8 surgeries in my life and i recovered just find.
