took son in for thrush & Dr. brought up diabetes, my g-dad died from, i was checked for gesta., is it same?

Thrush is caused by excess yeast (candida albicans) in the mouth. Normally you have yeast in your mouth but they are in smaller quantities because other micro-organisms keep them from increasing their number. If your son has been on antibiotics for a long time this could be the cause. Or, it can be passed through breast milk. Women who are diabetic have a higher incidence of yeast infections. Yeast grows very quickly in sugary environments. There are several scenarios that your doctor will investigate. 1) Check to see if You have high blood sugar and are still nursing your son. (you could be passing it through breast milk.) 2) Check to see if your son is diabetic. 3) Check to see if your son has been on antibiotics that could have upset the balance of his mucous membranes.
Also, you don't say if you were positive for gestational diabetes. Women who have been gest. diabetic and have given birth to babies over 9lbs, are at a higher risk for developing type II diabetes. Diet and exercise and a weight loss of 5-10% of your body weight will go a long way to preventing type II. Diabetes is known to be genetic. They are not the same thing. There is juveniile type I and II, adult type I and II and Gestastional
Some people when they have an over growth of yeast in their systems (like thrush) can be a sign of diabetes. Gest. diabetes is similar but not exactly the same.
Ive never heard the connection of thrush and diabetes. I thought that thrush was a yeast infection in the infants mouth.
You should look up more info on the internet and find a 2nd opinion.

No. Gestational is only during pregnancy - each time you're pregnant, you have the issue.

What type of diabetes did g-dad have? Was it Type 1 (Juvenile) Type 2 (adult onset)? That makes a difference. Family history can be a factor of your son having it, but I don't see what having thrush made your doctor bring it up. UNLESS it's recurring thrush. But still..
Babies often get thrush but the Doctor has to look at all possibilities.
Not to worry, it is probably nothing and it isn't the same as gestational.
This was a child I think. I see no reason to do anything except suggest cleaniness of nipples and eating utensils.

You said you had gestational diabetes, and since diabetes also has a genetic component, your child may also be a diabetic and therefore the thrush. Get the tests and evaluation done for your child. Do not forget to get yourself tested for diabetes once again.
there has been a hugh increase recently in pregnancy diabetes which is presumablely hte same as gestational diabetes-having a relative wiht diabetes increases your risk and fungal growth and thrush otherwise known as candida albanicans is or can be a sign of uncontrolled high sugar levels as the organism thrives on the high sugar levels
of course the sugar should return to normal afterr the pregnancy as it does when some sugar elevating drugs are withdrawn

WELL did the doctor take a blood sugar test? did he/she order any test? Please don't wait until your baby goes into a diabetic coma. Call the doctor back and schedule any test needed. Even if its just to make sure your baby is healthy and not a diabetic.
Having too many infections or thrush is a symptom of something not being right. Don't let it go to the next stage without you doing something about it now.
