"Formula 747 Joint Support". Does it interact with blood pressure meds like plavix, attenolol, etc.?
I have cardiovascular disease and recently started taking "Formula 747 Joint Support." Anyone have any info on contraindicaions?
Answers:
Well, I'm not sure what is in Formula 747 Joint Support but I'm guessing it's glucosamine and maybe chondroitin too.
The important thing to know about any dietary supplement is that they are not regulated like prescription and over the counter medicines. In fact, there is no guarantee that what is on the label is actually in the bottle. Sometimes they contain harmful things, too, like lead. One way to be sure that what you're getting is what's on the label is to check one of these reliable websites: http://www.usp.org/USPVerified/
http://www.consumerlab.com/
Also, you should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any supplement.
Another thing about dietary supplements vs. medicines is that supplements are not studied as extensively, so drug interactions are not always known.
To answer your question: If it is glucosamine, it probably does not interact with your meds, unless you are taking Coumadin (warfarin). Glucosamine can cause excessive thinning of the blood in people taking Coumadin, which can lead to bleeding. Plavix is probably ok.
