would a yeast infection of the adult vocal cords mimmick any vocal cord cancer?
i have a bad cough for about 2 months and hoarsness, I was then treated with diflucan for what the doctor thought was a yeast infection on my vocal cords, although I wasn't on any antibiotics. Since I finished all the meds he has done 2 scopes into my throat and still sees stuff on my vocal cords, so now he has done a biopsy of the vocal cords. I am worried about this, and just wondered if you might have an answer, I'm still waiting on results, this was done two days ago.
Answers:
Certain fungal infection of the vocal cord or larynx may mimic cancer such as squamous cell carcinoma or pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia or benign growth resulting from irritation from the fungal infection.
However, it is best to wait for the pathology report. Primarily because there is nothing you can do now. The result is most likely benign. Especially if you don't smoke, or drink (also if not men older than 50).
Best of luck.
