No cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's disease. Average life expectancy is 2 to 5 years following diagnosis.

Best thing for your family is to get a camera and video the person talking about their life, family history, etc. as much as possible before it becomes impossible for him or her to speak. You'll treasure it forever!
