Can Hypotonia be cured?. Does Biotin help in controlling Hypotonia?
My son has been diagnosed with mild hypotonia. He is 18 months now. Though, he is developing well but compared to other kids of his age, he is bit delayed. He is unable to stand on his own. With support, he manages to stand.
Mental faculties appears to be okay as he understands the commands and is of cheerful disposition. He does make attempts to reach for new things and play with such things.
His physician has advised Biotin. Is there any alternative medicine under any other mode of treatment other than allopathic.

If your son has been diagnosed with mild hypotonia, he just may grow out of it. Check this site: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/hypotonia/hypotonia.htm His physical development will improve as he gets older. Happily his intellect is not hindered with hypotonia. Unfortunately there is no cure for hypotonia. Here is another site that has listings of more sites at the bottom of the web page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypotonia
Biotin is also known as vitamin B7. It should increase his energy levels, and with increased energy levels, he increases the strength and tone of his muscles. Hypo (low) tonia (tone) means lax flaccid muscles, low muscle tone. The Biotin increases energy and makes him more active and when he is more active he builds up his muscle tone.
Play is the best thing for him now. Play the bicycle game with him. Lay him on his back, hold the bottoms of his feet and pump them in a bicycle manner remembering to do it backwards for yourself (otherwise he'll walk backwards easier than forwards LOL)
Encourage him to push with his feet on your hands. It will help him get the hang of walking and contracting his muscles.Don't make him work too hard, that will defeat the purpose.
Sing, play, repeat learning rhymes with him, the alphabet, keep his mind and his body going.
Check in with his physician to see if this type of activity is acceptable for him.
I have never heard of a medication for hypotonia. I do know there is Botox and Baclofen for Hypertonia (spasticity) though.
Hypotonia can be outgrown if it's just due to a developmental delay. But most of the time, I'd say "no". There's usually an underlying, permanent reason for abnormal muscle tone. Therefore, no cure.
My daughter has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, but she also has low tone in her trunk. All you can really do for Hypotonia (low tone) is muscle strengthening. Does your son see a Physical Therapist? If not, call your local Early Intervention office to have him evaluated. The evaluation and services are free.
