How long before low-carb diet has long-term effect on blood sugar??
Answers:
The effect would be immediate.
If you don't eat carbs, there is nothing besides your body to create a blood sugar levels.
Low or no carb diets put a huge burden on the liver that then starts putting out more sugar that your body needs to function.Your sugar levels are now created solely by your liver.[ please don't consider this a bash- it isn't ]
You may need medication to deal with the sugar levels you are seeing now ?
Please check with your doctor and tell him/her what diet you are on.
Good luck .
Keep going on your low carb diet, this will remove the stress on your pancreas and lower the glucose levels to normal in few weeks. Regular exercises and some medications can help you to get faster results.
Something's not right here. I don't see exercise as a part of your regimen. Whatever carbs you ingest will be metabolized to sugar (glucose) and you need to start using some of that glucose for cellular energy instead of allowing it to circulate in your blood. There's no absolute timetable for glucose stabilization. It will depend on how quickly your body responds but I'd say you should start to see a difference within 30 days.

FYI to Shahira: Diet and exercise are the first step to managing DM 2. Antidiabetic meds are used if step 1 is ineffective or not completely effective.
