family member has sleep-related condition?

a family member has suffered from a condition that is linked to his sleep. he experiences severe jerks after he wakes up, whether its in the morning or after a nap. he cannot hold anything in case he drops it and breaks it, and he has actually fallen once and bitten his lip. he has also injured his gum while brushing his teeth. he has been to a neurosurgeon who diagnosed him with some jerk disorder, cant remember the name, and prescribed medication for epilepsy. however he has to wake up, take the meds and wait a half hour in bed after waking up before he does anything in case he injures himself. its not epilepsy, so what is it?also, we know its sleep related because he doesnt have these jerks/twitches when hes fully awake, be it night or day. can someone pls tell me what could be wrong, or what sort of doctor we should consult?no one seems to know whats wrong. :(

A neurologist would be best. It seems like you need to communicate with your family member more. They already went to the doctor so I'm not sure what your question is specifically asking for.

Check with a pulmonologist. Some pulmonologists specialize in sleep disturbances. It sounds very odd
I agree. There are a number of sleep related disorders, from sleep apnea to restless leg syndrome. Some of the symptoms could be a more serious affect of the latter. A pulmonologist could better explain it. Thanks for the two points.
Unfortunately, (is a usual thing) there is no mention of the age or any other signs or symptoms.. You could email me some particulars which may allow a more comprehensive judgement call.
well my brother does that too and we dont what's werong the doctors just keep telling us tha it's nothing.
