ANOREXIA ANOREXIA AnOREXIA?
My friend has anorexia. She is in the process of recovery. Will she ever be normal again?
Answers:
It is ABSOLTELY possible for her to be fully recovered and "normal" again. As she gets better, she will undergo weight restoration. Generally, during this re-feeding process, the weight goes first to the vital organs, and therefore she may gain more in her stomach area at first (people often complain of feeling like an ethiopian child...pooched out belly and super skinny limbs). This is very difficult for many women to tolerate, and your friend will probably feel "fat" and uncomfortable. It never hurts to remind the person that the weight does eventually re-distribute and even out! :) After she has gained back the weight, and worked with a therapist to understand what caused her disorder, she will be able to eat normally and not worry so much about it. The LAST thing to go away is the distorted body image, which can take quite a while.
Hope this helps. She's lucky to have a concerned friend. :)
No. The disease will be with her forever and she will always need to be on guard for relapses.
yes ~ but it depends what you mean by normal. I had a friend go through anorexia in high school, now 7 years later she is a size 12.with massive boobs. She doesnt have much self confidence in her body at all though and wont go out cause she says she is too fat. But she does eat which is good.
yes.I know someone who had anorexia, and after she recovered her body was comletly back to normal and you would have never guessed she was anorexic.
well, she will but she won't. i no people who have had anorexia. \ she wasn't as confident but she looked similar. It really depends on the person. Like another one of my friends actually became more confident because she knew she had conquered something. If she isn't the same don't give up on your relationship. give it time, and don't be to hard on her. well, good luck.
Maybe. Most of the time, this kind of person seems to be OK after recovery, they have a normal weight and they eat.
But many times they are not emotionally stable, and they still tend to feel fat inspite of being thin. Friends and family have to offer support and keep a watchful eye on them.
Also, if they have children, the children have an increased risk of becoming anorexic, so it never really goes away. Friends and family have to be there to help.
I am trying to recover from anorexia..Jen said it perfectly
