Any experience with intrusive thoughts?
Intrusive thoughts distract me from time to time and I can't ignore them.what has helped you if you experience this physc problem?

Hmmmm. I thought I was the only one with that problem!
I use the mantra: Peace, Love, Beauty, Joy and I think about what each word means to me as I reveiw it in my mind. It works pretty well. If I am laying down it kinda puts me to sleep and if I'm up and about, I tend to forget about the intrustive thoughts for a while.
There's an old trick used by the tenders of elephants in India. They give a stick to an elephant to hold whenever they take the elephants into places where their curious trunks will cause damage or mayhem. It works as the animals are pre occupied with holding the stick.
If you don't like mantras, try holding other thoughts you like such as thoughts of loved ones or of sex or of your successful moments in life or of your dreams to be somewhere that is a happy place or expectation for you.
I think of my intrusive thoughts as demons, as in "we all have our own personal demons." I have three or four embarassing mistakes I've made, that surely no one remembers but me, that play over and over again in my head, especially as I'm trying to get to sleep. The only thing that has worked for me is asking God to take them from me. I still have to pray about it from time to time, but the frequency has lessened substantially. It's gotten to the point now where I can kind of laugh at them because their random appearances are so silly, illogical, nonsensical and pointless. They've shrunken from oppressive demon foe to pesky little imps I can flick off my shoulder. Creative visualization, meditation, prayer--whatever you want to call it, it works for me. They're my thoughts and I have to manage them the best way I can.
I don't know a good way. I try to keep myself busy when I feel them comming on. Look for patterns as too when they come (ie do they come when your lonely, sad, hungry?)
