Does anyone know if hep c and hep b are connected?

My husband has been diagnosed with hep c, but he also had hep b at one time also is thier any relationship between them. Also can you get disability for hep c hope to get some god answers thanks

Answers:
Hep C is an RNA virus and Hep B is a DNA virus. The Dr who diagnosed the Hep C could tell you from your husband's blood work whether his Hep B was inactive, resolved or still a problem. Most likely it has resolved and is no longer communicable but he still carries the Hep B antibodies showing he had a past infection. Both types of hepatitis are generally contracted in the same ways. You can not get disability just for having Hep C unless you have serious cirrhosis or other serious health problems caused by the hep C. The details of what qualifies as liver disease severe enough to qualify for disability could be found at

This info is for Social Security Disability and applies to someone who has been working previously but will be unable to work for at least 12 months due to total disability. The rules for SSI are different and income based.

With the new combo treatment Hep C can be successfully treated and put into permanent remission via undetectable viral load at rates of between 45% to 90% depending on genotype, dedication to difficult treatment routine, quitting all drinking of alcohol and luck. The drugs for this combo treatment cost 40K or more so medical insurance is essential. If uninsured then look into available clinical trials.

Hep c and hep B are two different viruses, there is no connection between them, but they are transmited in the same ways (sex, blood), they live in liver and slowly destroy it.
There is a vaccine for hep B, and there is no way to protect yourself from hep C (the only way is to use condoms !!!).
well there is a shot for hep b, but you can die from hep c and there isnt a shot to help prevent it. you can get both of them from infected blood and needles. hope that helps :)
I don't think it has any connection between the two of it. I had hepatitis B when I was a child. Me and some friends got it from the club's pool.
My mother got hepatitis C without never have gotten hepatitis B. I think the disease is caused by different types of virus because the transmissions, from what I know, occurred in different ways.
Connection? yes. They are both sub types of Hepatitus ( An inflamation of the liver)... Does a history of contracting one type definitively mean you will get any of the other sub types..No.
While they presumably are out there, I haven't seen any cases where the alleged disability is Hepatitis C. Having said that, the following observations may be helpful.

1. The name of the disease is not dispositive as to whether it is a disability. Two employees could have the same disease, but depending on how the disease has manifested itself in each, it's progression in each, etc., it could be a disability in one, but not the other. Let's look at the definition of "disability" under the ADA to see why.

2. A disability under the ADA is a mental or physical condition that substantially limits a major life activity. Significantly, this is a definition that requires looking at the individual to determine whether s/he was substantially limited. This is why knowing the name of the disease alone often won't tell you whether or not the employee has a disability.

3. There are many state and local anti-disability discrimination statutes. Some of them have a similar definition as the ADA, but some take a much different (usually broader) approach. Don't forget to consider applicable state/local law in your research!
