Sudden hearing loss.. what happened?

I am 44 year old female. I had a cold the same week this happened. Cold was in full fledge by Tuesday and Friday night sitting in front of a TV,I suddenly lost hearing out of one ear. I went to the ENT doctor on the first day they were open. They could not find anything, however put me on anti-viral meds. and sterioids. Hearing in that ear is still gone. Suppose to re-visit them when the steroids are done. That is another week from now. Anyone have any suggestions or anyone have had this to happen to them? If so.. what became of it?

Answers:
Having a cold will sometimes result in a build-up of pressure in the ear. This will then cause a loss of hearing until the pressure is gone. Sometimes this will take some time. I've had it happen when I was in an airplane and didn't yawn. The difference in pressure made my hearing nearly non-existant for about 4 or 5 days.
Since you've seen a doctor, I'm sure they've ruled out a burst eardrum.
I would suggest trying to clean out the ear with a q-tip (safely!) and hoping that it'll clear up. good luck

get a 2nd opinion.
all i can say is doctor
I have lost hearing suddenly twice in my life. Both times it was due to buildup of earwax over time so that finally it blocked hearing. Antiviral meds will not take care of this, since wax isn't bad. It actually protects and lubricates your ear in moderation. But too much blocks sound! I had to get and ENT Doc to clean it out with his machines. It feels funy because it sucks the wax out, but it helps. Check that out. Good luck!
