a medication called Byetta?

is there anyone out there who is taking the diabetes medication that you inject called Byetta? what do you think about it? i take a lot of pills for diabetes type2 at different times of the day and it is overwhelming. my blood levels if i dont take meds is between 350 and 450. i was wondering if doing the injections would be easier to manage since injections dont bother me. thank for any help.

I just started Byetta a little over a week ago. I switched from Lantus. It took a few days to get used to, had some nausea, but now I'm feeling fine. I'm already noticing much improved bg numbers, and I've lost 4 lbs in a week. I have noticed big differences in my appetite, I do NOT get hungry between meals any more or late at night, and I literally CAN'T eat as much as I did before starting.
I don't know where the info that Byetta causes weight gain comes from, everything I've read/heard lists weight LOSS as a side effect, and weight gain as an effect of insulin.

I am not on Byetta, but I have seen several people on it. It is an incretin mimetic. Incretin is a hormone the body makes in response to food in the gut. Incretin tells the pancreas to release insulin. No food, no insulin. This means 2 things: 1) no low sugars, and 2) helps with weight loss, which helps overall health. It is by no means a miracle drug, but it is novel: most drugs only add to the weight gain. I recommend trying it because about the only downside is that it is injected, and you seem to be in the minority where that comes in. I did shots for 2 years and I am still afraid of needles!
go on insulin. you will have better readings and more control. if you are going to have a big dinner, take more insulin. if you are not going to eat.. take less.. byetta is not as good as insulin, plus there is a huge weight gain as a side effect! Talk to your Dr.
