What do all those protein and energy/workout drinks do anyway?

i recently started working out and decided to visit GNC's website. I looked in their "sports nutrition" section and saw a whole bunch of bottles of weird muscle builders and stuff.
Can someone explain or attach a link that explains what all those things do? In particular, protein, whey protein, creatine, and the amino acid drinks.

thanks.

Answers:
protein rebuilds muscles after a hard workout. protein is necessary if you want nice strong toned muscles.whey protein is another form of protein which basically does the same job. energy drinks are good for very hard workouts, when water just doesnt help.water is still the best form of hydration because it has no sugar and artificial ingredients.
