Can my 14.5 years old son do weight training?? pl. advise?
I read somewhere that if you do weight training at this age , this can stop the normal height growth of the kid.
Answers:
The kids have softened bones to ease the development stage.
So it may. (if he is already really tall then it may not matter)
I don't think weight training will stop normal growth. It may build build that is hard to loose if he stops am a man, 54 years old, I worked out as a young man, and it didn't have any negative effects on me
It depends on his stage of puberty.
If he's already nearly a man he can, as this means that he's got not much more to grow anyway.
And yes, mostly likely he will be able to
I ve played basketball since i was 7 at a club and we werent allowed to do weight trainin till we were 15 cause of the fact our body was still developing and we weren't allowed to.
So if u ask me he can wait another year. Set ups and all tht might help till he grows a lil more.
Best thing to do is ask his doctor. Some kids can do sports some can't. I had a cousin who was 7 feet one inche tall at 14. He could not play basketball because he was growing so fast there was too much danger of damage to his joints and such. A pediatrician would be your best bet for an answer to that question.
A very question. Yes, your son can do weight training, and no there is no scientific or medical proof that it will stop his normal growth..at 14 1/2 his growth cells are already in 4th gear.
The weight training I do recommend at his age is not body building, but strength training. In strength training we want to concentrate on a good muscular structure, form, strength the tendons and joints, while building some muscle mass, but mostly building muscle strength and endurance.
Now, it is very, very important that before we buy the weight set, or whatever you have in mind, that he and also you know the correct form of each weight training exercise to include the breathing part.
Weight training not only builds our physical strength, helps build a more muscular body, it also gives us confidence in ourselves, and our abilities.
If you want to know recommended exercises please consult a professional in your area, or ask another question pertaining to "Types of Weight Training Exercises for Teenagers".
