Has anyone tried low carb diet and what were the results?

My baby is turning a year old next week and I still have to lose 20 pounds of pregnancy weight (gained 60) and I was eating low fat and exercise but the scale will not budge. Two days ago I started Atkins and I know the first two weeks are the strictest and then it should get easier but this is so different from the way I have always eaten. Has anyone done a low carb diet and how did you do with it?

I have used Atkins and found it very effective. Read the ENTIRE book though because most people read the first few pages then think that is all there is. I lost a total of 70# on Atkins and it is a great program. Join a group list like AtkinsChallengers@yahoogroups.. They are helpful. Ask for JJ or Kari.


You will lose lots of weight. Your breath will STINK no matter what. And as soon as you go back to eating bread and pasta, you'll gain it all back.
I agree with the first poster about the reading the WHOLE book.

I found that Atkins is more no carb than low carb and I just can't maintain the energy level I needed with that. The South Beach Diet was better but again limited in the number of recipes available.

Eventually what ended up working best for me was to get a variety of low carb cookbooks like the ones listed in resources below. It appeased my taste buds as well as my energy level and weigth loss.

I REALLY liked the Chinese food.
