Has anyone tried "Negative Calorie Foods"?
I found this program - http://necessaryvirtues.com/go/4020/118 - that claims you can lose weight by eating a diet planned around so-called "negative calorie foods."
Has anyone actually tried this type of diet? What were the results? Short-term? Long-term? I'd really like to know whether it works.

I personally find diets a lazy way to find the answer to all your quesitons. The theory behind diets longer term is to consume less then your body uses as energy.
1 pound of fat is equal to roughly 3500 calories a day. That's my average daily consumption of food calories. I am a bodybuilder and have to lose and gain year round. I lost roughly 25 pounds in 5 weeks I could have lost it sooner and in less time but that was not my objective. My objective is to support the muscle I have while cutting calories to lose fat.
My best advice to you is to stay away from too much of anything. A well balanced diet is key. Essential fats are also necessary so avocados and nuts are a great snack when you are hungry and yes you can use the avocados with some dip for some lite chips. I recommend anyone who is trying to lose weight to actually eat more through out the day. The reason for this is to avoid your body to completely shut down its metabolizm when this happens your body becomes catabolic and eats your muscle in place of fat. So high protein right? PArtially, they key would have been eating a small meal like a granola bar and/or a maybe some fruit and a shake. In essence eat roughly 6-8 meals a day and stay away from heavy anything. Thats hard for me to say because I love pastas, with heavy sauces and garlic bread.
Further more, that's only a 3rd of the equation. I would recommend cardio and some weight training for a minimum of an hour a day for atleast 3-4 days a week and maybe about 30 minutes of light intensity of fast walking/slow jogging or the "bike" The great part about working out and a memebership at the gym is you can always work off the meal you cheated on.
The other third is to be consistant. Don't hurt yourself because you cheated and had a doughnut or what not I allow myself to cheat my diet all the time but I make up for it at the gym or by not eating so bad the following week.
Also, your body can only use 200 calories from fruits in 1 day. Fructose which is the fruit sugar, is the energy source from the carbs in fruit and it is then stored as fat after 200 cals. I don't recommend this and the same is for veggies so thats about 400 cals a day you can utilize this approach. What about the other 1000-2000?
One more thing, a great way to find out what you are burning as energy now is to keep track of what you are consuming now, EVERYTHING! and slowly subtract and adjust with filling foods like brown rice and yams red potatos etc in place of the other options. And, to count those cals use this site. www.fitday.com/
Never heard of it but it sounds interesting.
Usually it takes an extremely long time to work. Never actually tried it though, as I am under weight.
Maybe if combined with exercise. I dunno.
I have heard celery and grapefruit are negative calorie foods (use more calories to digest than it gives you)
And of course ice cubes !!
Have never heard of any others. I am sure a lot of people would love to know more.
Yeah I've seen that and I think it's all a hoax. You'd starve to death eating those foods. How could you ever get full? If your looking into losing some weight why don't you look into "The Rice Diet". I've lost 38 pounds on it . it's a low sodium, whole grain foods way of eating that completely makes sense. Here's a link for you, best of luck!!
The Negative Calorie Food Diet does produce results..as with any other diet that is followed correctly. The thing with this diet is that you must follow it very strictly..no cheating, it also works faster if you consume all of the veggies and fruits raw. I use it when I notice I am gaining a few pounds. I can usually lose 5-10 pounds in 2 or 3 weeks. Good Luck!
No I am a vegan and am actually 10 pounds overweight! This is false, don't believe it. I eat only fruits and vegies.
I went to this site and checked it out for a few minutes. I had talked with a guy at the club the other day that is doing this diet, and I don't recommend it. It's really another gimmick. They're talking gibberish and going around and around throwing those positive and negative words around.
One of the things they say is that negative foods use more calories to digest than the calories the food contain, this is a bunch of mumbo jumbo. Our bodies don't use calories to digest anything. Calories are little energies. Whenever you walk across the room you burn calories, when you walk to your car, you burn calories. We don't burn calories in digestion, this is silly.
Another thing they say is your body works hard extracting calories from negative foods, this is silly too, they're just throwing alot of words around.
I would'nt recommend it at all, I heard this guy talking in the gym about not being able to eat bananas and I laughed and said what are you tallkin about and we talked about it, I told him he has fallen for a gimmick, any fruit and veggie is good for you. I have a friend who is a dietician at the hospital and she told me once, "we've never had a death from anyone eating too many fruits and veggies" yeah eat all you want!
Anyway sorry to make this so long, hope some of this helps you. Weight watchers is the best out right now. They're solid, you are accountable and alot of people have success with it. They have an incredible online support too, they send you great information almost daily.
Celery and water diet, You'll lose lbs.!
It's a gimmick, I tried it and basically they're telling you to eat vegetables and certain fruits.
Also, you're only taking in 800 calories a day.
It works but it was very hard for me to keep up (you can eat only so many plants.)
